WILLEMSTAD – Opposition MP Giselle Mc William is questioning why funds are available to purchase the former SEHOS complex while Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) reportedly continues to face difficulties financing medical equipment.
“HNO Vastgoed has money to buy SEHOS, but NOT to buy medical equipment for CMC,” Mc William wrote on social media.
Her comments add to the debate surrounding the acquisition of the former Sint Elisabeth Hospital property and the financial priorities within Curaçao’s healthcare sector.
The former SEHOS complex is intended to become part of a broader healthcare district around CMC. However, Mc William is questioning whether purchasing real estate should be a priority when the hospital also requires investment in equipment needed for patient care.
HNO Vastgoed en Beheer is responsible for CMC’s building and has also been assigned responsibilities related to medical equipment.
Mc William did not specify which medical equipment CMC currently lacks or how much funding would be required. Her statement instead raises a broader question about how available healthcare funds are being allocated between property investments and the hospital’s operational needs.
The government has yet to publicly respond to Mc William’s latest criticism.
