WILLEMSTAD – Vendors at Marshe Nobo in downtown Willemstad are expressing dissatisfaction over several conditions at the market, including rent payments, rainwater entering the building and the cleanliness of the public restrooms.
One of the main complaints concerns the rent charged for August. According to the vendors, they were required to pay rent for that month despite earlier information from Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof indicating that this would not be the case.
The vendors say the situation has caused frustration and are seeking clarity about why the August rent was nevertheless collected.
They are also raising concerns about the condition of the market during periods of heavy rain and wind. According to some vendors, rainwater can enter parts of the building and reach their stalls, causing merchandise to become wet.
Rain also leaves sections of the floor wet, creating slippery conditions and increasing the risk of vendors and visitors falling.
Another complaint involves the sanitary facilities. Vendors say the restrooms are frequently dirty and believe that better and more consistent cleaning is needed.
The complaints highlight broader concerns among vendors about the maintenance and management of Marshe Nobo, which serves as an important commercial location in downtown Willemstad.
The vendors are calling for the issues to be addressed, particularly the water entering the market, slippery floors, restroom maintenance and clarity regarding their rental obligations.
