WILLEMSTAD – Mangusa Hypermarket offers the largest number of meat, vegetable, and fruit products at the lowest prices among supermarkets surveyed in Curaçao, according to a new price comparison conducted by consumer organization Fundashon pa Konsumidó (FPK).

The survey examined the prices of 94 products at fifteen supermarkets across the island between May 30 and June 5, providing consumers with an overview of where they can find the best deals on everyday groceries.

According to FPK, Mangusa Hypermarket topped the ranking by offering 27 of the 94 selected products at the lowest price. Centrum Mahaai, Centrum Piscadera, and Mangusa Rio Canario followed closely, each recording 25 products with the lowest prices in their respective stores. Bon Bini rounded out the top group with 15 products offered at the lowest price among the supermarkets surveyed.

Best Value by Category

The study also analyzed pricing by product category.

In the meat category, Centrum Mahaai and Centrum Piscadera emerged as the most affordable supermarkets, offering the lowest prices on the largest number of meat products included in the survey.

For vegetables, Mangusa Hypermarket and Mangusa Rio Canario achieved the best results, providing shoppers with the most competitively priced produce.

The comparison focused specifically on products commonly purchased by consumers and was designed to help households make more informed shopping decisions amid ongoing concerns about the cost of living.

Helping Consumers Compare Prices

Fundashon pa Konsumidó said the purpose of the survey is to encourage consumers to compare prices before making purchases and to increase awareness of price differences between supermarkets.

The organization noted that the comparison was based solely on price and did not take into account factors such as product brands, country of origin, packaging, or quality differences.

As a result, consumers are encouraged to consider both price and quality when making purchasing decisions.

With food prices continuing to be a major concern for many families, FPK says regular price comparisons can help shoppers identify opportunities to reduce grocery expenses while promoting greater competition among retailers on the island.
