WILLEMSTAD – The opposition party MAN-PIN has presented a detailed and phased plan aimed at addressing the rising cost of living in Curaçao, urging the government to take immediate and targeted action.

Building on earlier proposals, the party’s updated plan outlines a combination of short-term relief measures and long-term structural reforms. Key proposals include eliminating import duties on essential food items, introducing targeted financial support such as food and energy vouchers, and reducing taxes on fuel and transportation.

The plan also emphasizes strengthening local agriculture to reduce dependence on imports. According to MAN-PIN, investing in domestic food production is essential for improving food security and stabilizing prices over time.

In the short term, the party proposes prioritizing direct assistance to vulnerable households and reducing the cost of basic goods. Over the longer term, the focus would shift toward supporting small businesses, expanding food programs, and building a more resilient local economy.

MAN-PIN stated that the phased approach is designed to balance immediate relief with sustainable development, while also ensuring that government resources are used effectively.

The party is using the updated proposal to increase pressure on the government, arguing that decisive action is needed to prevent further economic hardship and protect the purchasing power of Curaçao’s population.
