WILLEMSTAD – Opposition party MAN-PIN is calling for an urgent public parliamentary meeting to address the growing number of vehicle thefts and thefts of car parts on Curaçao.
In a press release, the party said reports of stolen and broken-into vehicles are creating unrest, frustration and an increasing sense of insecurity among residents.
According to MAN-PIN, the issue is no longer limited to isolated incidents, but has become a broader public safety concern affecting communities across the island.
The party also warned that the situation could negatively impact Curaçao’s tourism industry, arguing that visitors who become victims of theft or witness rising criminal activity may leave the island with a negative impression.
MAN-PIN further criticized what it described as the limited visibility of police patrols on the streets and accused Minister of Justice Shalten Hato of failing to respond to earlier parliamentary questions on the issue.
According to the party, the government must urgently implement stronger measures to improve public safety and restore confidence among residents and visitors.
The request for an emergency debate comes amid growing public concern on social media and within neighborhoods about vehicle-related crimes, including theft of tires, batteries and other auto parts.
