WILLEMSTAD – Opposition party MAN-PIN has held talks with healthcare union CBV to discuss working conditions in Curaçao’s healthcare sector, with both sides expressing a commitment to continue the dialogue and work toward concrete solutions.

The meeting focused on several longstanding challenges affecting healthcare workers and the delivery of care on the island, according to a press release issued by MAN-PIN.

Among the issues discussed were salary disparities within the sector, persistent staff shortages and the ongoing departure of healthcare professionals to other countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The migration of nurses, technicians and other healthcare workers has become a growing concern for healthcare institutions, which continue to face difficulties recruiting and retaining qualified personnel.

MAN-PIN said the discussions explored a number of proposals aimed at improving conditions in both the short and medium term. While specific measures were not disclosed, the party indicated that the goal is to strengthen the healthcare workforce and improve the overall functioning of the sector.

Another important topic was how to make careers in healthcare more attractive to younger generations. Participants discussed ways to encourage more young people to pursue professions in healthcare and help ensure a sustainable workforce for the future.

According to MAN-PIN, the meeting forms part of an ongoing effort to engage with stakeholders across the healthcare sector and better understand the challenges faced by employees and institutions.

The party stated that it intends to continue consultations with CBV and other healthcare organizations as it works to develop proposals aimed at improving working conditions and safeguarding the quality and continuity of healthcare services in Curaçao.

Healthcare staffing shortages have become a recurring concern in recent years, with hospitals, clinics and care institutions frequently warning about the impact of workforce shortages on patient care and service delivery. The issue has also been linked to broader discussions about salaries, working conditions and opportunities for professional development within the sector.
