WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has welcomed the luxury cruise ship Scenic Eclipse II on its maiden call to the port of Willemstad, marking a notable moment for the island’s cruise and tourism sector.
The vessel arrived on Monday, April 20, docking at Mathey Wharf as part of its Caribbean itinerary. The visit forms part of an 11-day voyage titled “Panama Canal, Reposition Spring,” which began in Panama City on April 13 and will conclude in Bridgetown, Barbados on April 24.

Designed as an ultra-luxury expedition yacht, Scenic Eclipse II operates in destinations around the world, including remote and exclusive regions. The ship accommodates around 228 passengers and is known for combining high-end travel with exploration experiences.
To commemorate the first visit, a traditional plaque exchange ceremony was held on board. Representatives from the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA), the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), local agent Maduro Shipping, Customs officials, and the ship’s captain participated in the event.
Authorities highlight that such maiden calls are important not only symbolically, but also economically. The arrival of the vessel generates local activity through spending by passengers and crew, as well as demand for services across the port, tourism, and hospitality sectors.
The visit underscores Curaçao’s position as an attractive destination within the Caribbean cruise network, particularly for high-end and niche segments of the market. As the island continues to expand its cruise offerings, calls from luxury vessels like Scenic Eclipse II are seen as a valuable addition to the tourism economy.
