WILLEMSTAD – Large crowds of motorists gathered early Tuesday morning at the Gosieweg distribution site as the issuance of new 2026 license plates officially got underway, leading to long lines and extended waiting times.
The distribution is taking place at the former Las Vegas supermarket location, where the first motorists began arriving as early as 7:00 AM—well before opening hours.
The strong turnout on the first day reflects the scale of the operation. Authorities expect that approximately 133,000 vehicles will need to be equipped with new license plates in the coming weeks.
Motorists collecting their plates are required to present a valid identification document, a valid vehicle inspection card, and proof of payment of the 2026 road tax, whether for a half-year or full-year period.
Officials anticipate that the high turnout and resulting congestion will continue in the weeks ahead as vehicle owners move to comply with the new requirements.
