Life Expectancy for Curaçao Residents Over 60 Rises in 2025

Local, | By Correspondent October 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Life expectancy among Curaçao residents aged 60 increased in 2025, with both men and women expected to live longer than they were a year earlier, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

A 60-year-old man in Curaçao could expect to live another 22.6 years on average in 2025, compared with 21.5 years in 2024. This represents an increase of 1.1 years.

For women, remaining life expectancy at age 60 increased from 25.8 years in 2024 to 26.6 years in 2025, an improvement of 0.8 years.

Women therefore continue to have a considerably higher life expectancy than men at age 60. The difference between the two groups is approximately four years.

CBS released the figures in connection with the International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on October 1.

This year’s United Nations theme is “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives,” drawing attention not only to people living longer but also to how societies must adapt to aging populations.

According to CBS, the discussion should therefore go beyond the number of additional years people are living. Attention must also be given to ensuring that those additional years can be lived in good health, with opportunities to remain active and age with dignity.

The Curaçao figures follow a broader international trend toward longer lives after age 60.

According to global figures cited by CBS, average remaining life expectancy at age 60 increased from 18.9 years in 2000 to 21.6 years in 2025.

The latest Curaçao figures are particularly relevant as the island’s population continues to age, increasing the importance of policies involving healthcare, pensions, housing and services for senior citizens.
