WILLEMSTAD – LengaGPT is strengthening partnerships on Curaçao as it continues developing digital language technology for Papiamentu. Gabrielle Ras, project leader of LengaGPT, visited Curaçao from June 15 to 25, 2026, for a working visit focused on collaboration, knowledge exchange and exploring opportunities to further develop and promote the project.
During the visit, Ras and Ronald Lieuw, representing Stichting SPLIKA, held discussions with several organizations about the future development and application of LengaGPT.
LengaGPT is an initiative aimed at building a Papiamentu-language artificial intelligence model that learns from Papiamentu data and can generate new information and answers based on that knowledge. The project seeks to contribute to the digital preservation, development and accessibility of the language.
The working visit focused on strengthening cooperation and identifying ways to expand digital language resources for Papiamentu. Meetings were held with organizations including Biblioteka Nashonal Kòrsou, RST, Extra, Arthur Dania, BlueNap Americas and the Mongui Maduro Library.
The discussions covered topics such as data collection, digitization, legal and historical sources, cooperation with knowledge institutions and the role of artificial intelligence in language development.
According to LengaGPT, the visit resulted in valuable insights and new opportunities for collaboration. The initiative will continue working toward the digital development and long-term sustainability of Papiamentu.
“By combining technology, knowledge and collaboration, we can ensure that Papiamentu continues to have a strong presence in the digital world,” LengaGPT stated.
