WILLEMSTAD – Prices for fruits and vegetables in Curaçao vary widely, with differences reaching up to nearly 10 guilders per product, according to a recent comparison by Fundashon pa Konsumidó.

The consumer organization surveyed prices of 81 products across eight fruit and vegetable stores on the island in early April. The results show that City Center/Plantage Mendez most frequently offers the lowest prices, leading in 28 of the surveyed items.

Bo Kunuku ranked second, offering the lowest prices for 19 products, followed by Dani’s Fruit Center with 17.

The study highlights significant price disparities between stores. For example, one kilogram of broccoli costs 10 guilders at City Center/Plantage Mendez, compared to 16.95 guilders at Fruteria Los Primos. In the case of ginger, the price difference can reach as much as 10 guilders per kilogram.

In addition to pricing, the report also examined product availability. Dani’s Fruit Center, with locations in Weto and Schonegevelstraat, was found to have the largest assortment, carrying 61 of the 81 products included in the study.

The findings underline the importance for consumers to compare prices, as shopping choices can have a significant impact on household spending.
