Kingdom Urged to Continue Reform Cooperation Beyond 2027

Local, Politics, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent April 8, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Kingdom of the Netherlands is being urged to continue its reform cooperation with Curaçao beyond 2027, as many key changes remain unfinished.

The evaluation concludes that while progress has been made, most reforms are still in development or early implementation stages. Ending the cooperation framework prematurely could jeopardize the long-term success of these efforts.

The report recommends extending the collaboration to allow reforms to be fully implemented and embedded within Curaçao’s institutions. It also calls for a broader political discussion about the future structure of cooperation within the Kingdom.

At the same time, the evaluation emphasizes that Curaçao remains responsible for its own development. The reforms must ultimately be driven and owned by local authorities.

However, the experience of recent years shows that cooperation can strengthen implementation capacity, improve knowledge sharing, and support institutional development.

The report concludes that continued collaboration is not a limitation of autonomy, but rather a tool to strengthen it.
