THE HAGUE – King Willem-Alexander will attend the opening of the UNESCO Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination (GFARD) on Thursday morning, October 29, at the World Forum in The Hague.
Prime Minister Rob Jetten will deliver the opening address at the international gathering, which will bring together representatives from governments, United Nations organizations, cities, academia, civil society, youth organizations and the media.
This year’s forum will be held under the theme “From Commitment to Accountability: Change the System, Change the Future,” focusing on moving beyond commitments toward concrete and accountable action against racism and discrimination.
The National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism (NCDR) is serving as co-organizer and host of the multi-day international summit on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
King Willem-Alexander will attend the plenary opening and will subsequently meet with several participants from different parts of the world. The discussions will focus on specific challenges countries and communities face in combating racism and discrimination.
The UNESCO Global Forum serves as an international platform for exchanging experiences and developing practical approaches to addressing racism and discrimination. Participants will share best practices and discuss concrete measures that governments and other organizations can implement.
The participation of the NCDR gives the Kingdom of the Netherlands a prominent role in this year’s gathering. The National Coordinator operates independently under the responsibility of the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations.
The forum is intended to strengthen international cooperation and translate commitments against racism and discrimination into policies and actions that can produce measurable change.
