King Willem-Alexander Arrives in Aruba for Jubilee Celebrations

| By Correspondent March 18, 2026

ORANJESTAD – King Willem-Alexander arrived in Aruba on Tuesday evening to take part in celebrations marking two major milestones: the 50th anniversary of Aruba’s flag and national anthem, and 40 years of Status Aparte.

The King landed at Queen Beatrix International Airport at approximately 9:15 p.m., where he was officially welcomed by Governor Juan Alfonso Boekhoudt and Prime Minister Mike Eman, along with other dignitaries.

The visit is taking place in a festive atmosphere across the island. Government offices have closed for the occasion, while a wide range of cultural, sporting, and community events are being held to commemorate the historic anniversaries.

Aruba’s Status Aparte, obtained in 1986, marked the island’s separate constitutional position within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, while the flag and anthem remain key symbols of Aruban identity and unity.

Following his engagements in Aruba, King Willem-Alexander is scheduled to travel to Curaçao later today. During his visit, he is expected to meet with residents and discuss ongoing regional tensions, highlighting broader geopolitical concerns affecting the Caribbean.
