WILLEMSTAD – The KFC locations in Brievengat and Santa Maria will remain closed until further notice following burglaries at both restaurants early Monday morning.
Parent company Hucor Holding announced the temporary closures following the break-ins, saying the decision was taken because of the ongoing investigation and to ensure the safety of employees. KFC Curaçao has also posted a notice confirming that both locations are temporarily closed.
Hucor Holding condemned the vandalism and criminal activity and said the safety of employees and customers is its highest priority.
The company’s other KFC locations remain open, as do its Pizza Hut and Subway restaurants.
Four Safes Stolen
The two restaurants were targeted during burglaries early Monday morning. Thieves gained access to the Brievengat and Santa Maria locations and stole four safes containing proceeds from the weekend.
Authorities suspect the break-ins were carefully planned and are investigating whether the same perpetrators were responsible for both incidents.
Investigators are also examining whether heavy-duty firefighting equipment stolen earlier this month from the fire station in Bandabou may have been used during the burglaries. At the Santa Maria location, the perpetrators also managed to disable the alarm siren.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage as part of the investigation. No arrests have been announced.
Hucor Holding is asking anyone who saw suspicious activity around either KFC location to contact police immediately.

The company has not indicated when the Brievengat and Santa Maria restaurants are expected to reopen.
