WILLEMSTAD – Representatives of Stichting Kaya Kaya paid a courtesy visit on March 31, 2026, to the Governor of Curaçao, Mauritsz de Kort.
The delegation included board members Kurt Schoop and Raygen Zuiverloon, along with supervisory board members Ivan de Windt, Alexander de Vries, and Coryse Barendrecht.

During the meeting, the Governor was briefed on the foundation’s results and impact, as well as its plans for Otrobanda for the 2026–2028 period. The presentation built on a recent session held on March 19, 2026, where Kaya Kaya reflected on its development since 2018 and outlined its vision for the next phase.
What began as a local festival has grown into a broader movement that, together with partners and the community, actively contributes to the sustainable development of Otrobanda. In recent years, numerous projects have been implemented across social, cultural, and economic sectors. These efforts have increased the visibility and attractiveness of the neighborhood, including a notable rise in street art and expanded opportunities for local entrepreneurs and creatives.
A key element of Kaya Kaya’s approach is the active involvement of residents through co-creation and community engagement. The foundation is also facilitating the development of a master plan for Otrobanda, with community input serving as a central guiding principle. Research indicates that this approach has had a positive impact on community pride, social cohesion, and residents’ overall perception of the area.
Looking ahead, Kaya Kaya will continue to focus on strengthening Otrobanda as a cultural district. Upcoming events include Kaya Kaya Art Week, scheduled for August 17–22, 2026, and the Kaya Kaya Festival on September 26, 2026.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the foundation’s efforts and commended its meaningful contribution to the development and well-being of the Curaçao community.
