WILLEMSTAD – After more than a decade of closure, the reopening of the Kas di Bario in Dokterstuin is set to restore an important social service hub for residents in the Bandabou region.
Starting Tuesday, May 5, residents from western Curaçao will once again be able to access services at the community center, marking the return of a facility that has been closed for eleven years.
The reopening is being seen as an important step in bringing government and social support services closer to communities outside the capital.
The official reopening will be marked by the reception of the first clients, with Curaçao’s Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare Charetti America attending the event and delivering the opening remarks.
The Kas di Bario system has historically played a key role in connecting residents with social assistance, community support programs and other government-related services, particularly for vulnerable households.
For Bandabou residents, the return of the Dokterstuin location is expected to improve access to those services without the need to travel into Willemstad.
The reopening also aligns with broader efforts by the government to strengthen community-based support and improve accessibility to social programs across Curaçao.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Kas di Bario location in Dokterstuin.
For many in Bandabou, the reopening represents not just the return of a building, but the restoration of a long-missed community service point in the region.
