WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s prison system remains under scrutiny as authorities continue to struggle with implementing international recommendations on detention conditions, according to the 2025 report of the Raad voor de Rechtshandhaving.
The oversight body has been monitoring compliance with recommendations from the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) for several years.
In 2025, inspections focused on issues such as treatment of detainees, disciplinary measures and integrity within prison operations.
A follow-up report is expected in 2026, as concerns remain about the pace of improvements.
