WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Justice has officially launched the first edition of the Justice Bootcamp, a four-day intensive program designed to introduce young adults to careers in Curaçao's justice sector.
The bootcamp will take place from August 10 to 13, 2026, and is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who are interested in becoming police officers, firefighters or security officers at the Curaçao Detention and Correction Center (SDKK).
According to the ministry, the initiative is intended to give participants a realistic understanding of what these professions involve. While many young people have a general idea of the work, they may not fully understand the responsibilities, challenges and level of dedication required.
Throughout the four-day program, participants will work alongside justice professionals and gain first-hand experience of their daily duties.
Those interested in policing will accompany officers on patrol, observe how police respond to incidents and participate in simulations involving crime prevention and the maintenance of public order.
Participants will also be introduced to the work of the Curaçao Fire Department, taking part in activities such as firefighting exercises, rope descents and other physical and technical training that forms part of a firefighter's daily routine. The ministry said the program also emphasizes teamwork, discipline and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
In addition, the bootcamp will provide an introduction to the work of security officers at SDKK, highlighting their role in maintaining safety, order and stability within the correctional facility.
The Ministry of Justice hopes the initiative will encourage more young people to pursue careers that contribute to public safety and strengthen Curaçao's justice system.
