Job Seekers in Seru di Papaya to Receive Special Training Ahead of November Job Fair Curaçao

Local, | By Correspondent October 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Residents of Seru di Papaya and surrounding neighborhoods could receive specialized employment preparation ahead of Job Fair Curaçao in November 2026 through a new community-based initiative designed to help job seekers approach employers with greater confidence and stronger professional skills.

The initiative, “Futuro ta Kuminsá den Bario,” is being prepared by Stichting Bureau Studie Begeleiding in cooperation with Stichting DASH.

The organizers plan to use the upcoming Job Fair Curaçao as an important milestone in a broader employment guidance program that will begin before the event and continue afterward.

The proposed pilot project is scheduled to take place in Seru di Papaya between September and December 2026, subject to available resources and final arrangements with collaborating organizations.

Its main target group consists of adults between 25 and 40 years old who are seeking employment, hoping to return to the workforce, or considering a change in career.

According to Stichting Bureau Studie Begeleiding, experience from previous job fairs has shown that many job seekers are motivated to work but are not always sufficiently prepared to present themselves effectively to potential employers.

Some arrive without an updated résumé, while others struggle to explain their qualifications, recognize their professional strengths, or communicate confidently during interviews.

The new initiative is intended to provide that preparation before participants attend the fair.

Through workshops and individual guidance, participants will receive assistance updating their résumés, identifying suitable employment opportunities, and developing the communication skills needed to interact with recruiters.

They will also practice job interviews and learn how to present their experience and abilities in a professional manner.

The organizers want participants to attend Job Fair Curaçao in November with a clearer understanding of their employment possibilities and greater confidence when speaking with companies looking for workers.

However, the program will not end when the fair closes.

Follow-up guidance is planned to help participants maintain contact with employers they meet, follow up on submitted applications, and determine whether additional training or education could improve their employment prospects.

This approach is intended to address a common challenge facing job seekers: turning an initial conversation with an employer into a concrete opportunity for employment.

The foundation also wants participants to develop skills that will help them retain jobs once hired.

Workshops are expected to address teamwork, professional communication, and the ability to receive and apply feedback in the workplace.

Stichting DASH will play an important role in connecting the initiative with residents of Seru di Papaya and nearby communities.

The organization is already active in the area through programs supporting families and individuals facing social and economic challenges.

Its familiarity with the community and access to neighborhood facilities are expected to help the project reach residents who may not normally participate in large employment events.

Stichting Bureau Studie Begeleiding is also inviting employers, human resources professionals, career advisers, training institutions, and other community organizations to contribute to the initiative.

Their participation could provide job seekers with practical knowledge about recruitment procedures and the expectations of employers.

The pilot project is receiving support from the Representation of the Netherlands in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, AFAS, and the General Pension Fund of Curaçao (APC).

The organizers have not announced the number of participants expected to join the pilot or how many employment placements they hope to achieve.

The final scope of the program will depend on the resources available and the partnerships established.

In the longer term, the foundation hopes to develop the initiative into a year-round employment guidance program operating in several neighborhoods across Curaçao.

For the Seru di Papaya pilot, the immediate objective is to ensure that participants do more than simply attend November's Job Fair Curaçao. The organizers want them to arrive prepared, make meaningful contacts with employers, and continue working toward employment after the event.
