Local, | By Press release July 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Chef and cookbook author Helmi Smeulders has launched the seventh edition of the food and lifestyle magazine Island Vibes – The Taste of the Caribbean. The expanded summer edition, titled “It Rains Fishes,” takes readers on a culinary journey through the flavors, nature and stories of Curaçao and Bonaire.

The 152-page magazine features a wide range of recipes, articles, interviews and photography highlighting what makes the islands unique. While the theme “It Rains Fishes” serves as the central focus, the edition also explores local ingredients, culture, nature conservation, sustainable initiatives and the people who contribute to the Caribbean identity of the islands.

Among the highlights is an in-depth interview with renowned cookbook author and television chef Yvette van Boven, along with inspiring fish and barbecue recipes, stories about mangroves and salt production, and profiles of local entrepreneurs.

The magazine also includes a carefully curated guide featuring new restaurants, hidden gems and special locations to discover on Curaçao and Bonaire.

“Through Island Vibes, we want to show the richness of Caribbean cuisine. Not only by sharing recipes, but also by telling the stories behind the ingredients, the people and the nature,” said editor-in-chief Helmi Smeulders.

“We hope the magazine inspires people to eat more locally, discover new places and look at our islands from a different perspective.”

The new edition of Island Vibes is available starting today at several locations on Curaçao, including Bruna, La Reina, Wijnhandel Servir Frais, Concept Store by Sea & Sand, De Gouden Ton, The Sea Shack, Lionfish Caribbean, 3Sixt5 and DeliNova.

In the Netherlands, the magazine is available at retailers including Bruna, AKO, Libris, Primera and various bookstores. The latest edition will also soon become available on Bonaire.
