IPKO Meeting in Aruba Focuses on Geopolitics, Finances, and Autonomy Within the Kingdom

ORANJESTAD, WILLEMSTAD – The Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (Interparlementair Koninkrijksoverleg, IPKO) begins on Thursday in Aruba with an extensive program centered on the geopolitical situation, financial relations within the Kingdom, and the autonomy of the Caribbean countries. The meeting runs through Saturday and will largely take place at the Hyatt Place Aruba.

The conference opens on Thursday with presentations by all delegations outlining recent developments in their respective countries. This will be followed by a closed-door technical briefing on the geopolitical situation within the Kingdom. In the afternoon, an open session is scheduled focusing on the balance between financial supervision and the autonomy of the Caribbean countries within the Kingdom.

On Friday, attention shifts to economic and social themes. The program includes a presentation on the ‘Aruba Gateway 2030’ project, which focuses on aviation development and airport expansion, followed by a working visit to the airport. Cybersecurity, population ageing, and climate adaptation will also be discussed through presentations and question-and-answer sessions.

Saturday will be dedicated to discussing the list of agreements, after which a joint closing statement and press conference will be held.

Curaçao is participating with a delegation of ten members, including eight members of Parliament. The delegation is led by Parliament Chair Fergino Brownbill and further includes Kingdom Relations Committee Chair David Seferina and members of Parliament Maria Nita, Frenciss Lourens, Quincy Girigorie, Ramon Yung, Rutmilda Larmonie-Cecilia, and Giselle Mc. William. Parliamentary Clerk Silvin Cijntje and protocol coordinator Sharifa Bashir are also part of the delegation.

Aruba is represented by eleven members of Parliament, led by Parliament Chair Alfred Sneek. The delegation includes Jennifer Arends-Reyes, Ruthlyn Lindor, John Hart, Carlos Bermudez, Stephany Sevinger, Hendrik Tevreden, Edgard Vrolijk, Rocco Tjon, Endy Croes, and Eduard Pieters. Parliamentary Clerk Herman Hek is also attending. In addition, nine Aruban parliamentarians are present as observers without speaking rights.

Delegations from the Netherlands and Sint Maarten are also participating in the IPKO, which is regarded as the most important parliamentary consultation forum within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
