WILLEMSTAD – Financial-forensic researcher Luigi Faneyte met this week with two investigative journalists to discuss the criminal complaints he submitted regarding the implementation of Curaçao’s new online gaming licensing framework.
The meeting took place on July 27, 2026, when Faneyte received investigative journalists Sam Kunti, a BBC contributor, and Steve Menary, an award-winning British freelance investigative reporter, in Curaçao.
According to Faneyte, he provided the journalists with extensive documentation, supporting evidence and a detailed chronology related to two criminal complaints he filed in November and December 2024.
The complaints concern issues surrounding the introduction and execution of Curaçao’s new online gaming licensing system. During the meeting, the parties discussed questions related to governance, transparency, the legal basis for important decisions, possible conflicts of interest and the involvement of foreign individuals and companies in the licensing process.
Faneyte stated that his objective has always been to ensure that the matters raised are independently investigated and that the rule of law applies equally to everyone, regardless of their position or influence.
“The documents, official communications and evidence should be allowed to speak for themselves,” Faneyte said.
He emphasized that the issue is not about political disputes or personal conflicts, but about accountability, transparency and the integrity of public institutions.
Faneyte welcomed the role of investigative journalism in examining issues of public interest and said he appreciated the journalists’ professionalism and commitment to reviewing the available information carefully.
“The pursuit of truth requires persistence, independence and courage,” Faneyte stated, adding that he remains willing to cooperate with lawful investigations and members of the press seeking to establish the facts.
The meeting comes amid increased public discussion about Curaçao’s online gaming sector, following questions raised about the management, supervision and financial flows connected to the industry.
