Investigation ‘Barracuda’ Targets Alleged Import Fraud on Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – A criminal investigation known as “Barracuda” has uncovered indications of possible fraud within Curaçao’s import sector, following raids carried out this week at two locations on the island.

The case centers on suspicions of evading import duties and falsifying administrative documents. The operation was conducted under the authority of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, in coordination with an investigating judge.

Authorities searched a property identified as LOT1038 on Nieuwe Caracasbaaiweg, as well as a site on Kaminda Nikel. During the raids, administrative records were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

LOT1038 has since confirmed that authorities conducted an inspection at its premises. In a statement, the company said it has been in contact with the relevant authorities for some time and is cooperating fully with the investigation.

The company also expressed confidence in a careful and transparent handling of the case. It emphasized that its operations remain unaffected, with the store continuing normal business activities.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this stage. Authorities have not yet announced whether any arrests have been made.
