WILLEMSTAD – On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, an introduction ceremony was held at ORV (Training Institute for Law Enforcement) for the new classes of Correctional Facility Officers (PIW) and Special Police Officers (BAVPOL) of Politur.
The ceremony was moderated by Deborah Leito-Curiel and included speeches by Politur Board Chairman Ritzel Godfried, Deputy Director of SDKK (Curaçao Detention and Correctional Institution) Anthony Hasselmeijer, Head of Politur Imro Zwerwer, and ORV Director Alpha Falbru. Head of Detention at SDKK, Ludwin Maria, also delivered brief remarks, wishing the participants success in their training.
The new PIW class consists of 18 students, all of whom are already employed at SDKK. This marks the first time ORV is offering the Correctional Facility Officer training program, following close collaboration with the prison institution.
The BAVPOL Politur class includes 8 students and represents the third time ORV is organizing this specialized training program, which has been tailored specifically to meet the needs of Politur.
Both groups will follow a combination of full-time and part-time training. The PIW program will run for 47 weeks, while the BAVPOL program will last 41 weeks.
The ceremony concluded in a positive atmosphere, marking the start of an initial two-week integration period focused on teamwork and building strong group cohesion. After this phase, the students will officially begin their training programs.
