WILLEMSTAD – The seventh edition of the Innercity Willemstad newsletter has been published, featuring a look back at the successful Blue Wave Innercity Festival while providing updates on ongoing efforts to shape the future of Curaçao's historic city center.
According to the newsletter, the Blue Wave Innercity Festival attracted thousands of visitors over three days, transforming Willemstad's historic center into what organizers described as the vibrant heart of Curaçao. The event celebrated unity, culture, local talent and national pride, with activities taking place across the districts of Punda, Otrobanda, Pietermaai and Scharloo.
In addition to reflecting on the festival's success, the publication outlines the continued progress of development initiatives for downtown Willemstad. The Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) and the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP) are currently working together on a roadmap to implement the Willemstad City Center Vision 2026–2035.
The roadmap focuses on several strategic priorities, including strengthening Willemstad's identity, creating a greener city center, improving wayfinding and navigation throughout the city, establishing a City Management organization, and promoting closer cooperation between the public and private sectors.
The monthly Innercity Willemstad newsletter is intended to keep residents, business owners, visitors and other stakeholders informed about projects, initiatives and developments aimed at making the capital's historic center more attractive, vibrant and prepared for the future.
The long-term vision seeks to build on Willemstad's status as a cultural and economic hub while enhancing the quality of life for residents and improving the experience for visitors.
