WILLEMSTAD – Foundations and community organizations interested in obtaining financial support through the Legacy to Future Funds program are invited to attend an information session on Saturday, October 24, at Het Curaçaosch Museum in Otrobanda.
The meeting, scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the museum's SNIP Gallery, will provide practical guidance on how organizations can apply for grants and meet the requirements of the Dutch-funded program.
The information session comes ahead of a new application round opening on November 2, 2026, during which eligible organizations can request grants of up to US$10,000.
The funding is intended to support the development and professionalization of organizations involved in addressing the historical legacy of slavery and its continuing impact on Caribbean communities.
During the meeting, representatives responsible for implementing the subsidy program will explain the different funding categories, the eligibility requirements, and the procedures used to evaluate applications.
Particular attention will be given to the financial and administrative responsibilities of organizations receiving subsidies.
Applicants will receive information about the documentation they must submit, how their proposals will be assessed, and the financial and substantive reporting expected from organizations that receive funding.
The session is intended for both experienced applicants and foundations that have never participated in the program.
The upcoming funding round focuses on Category 1, which supports organizational strengthening rather than exclusively financing individual projects.
This approach recognizes that community organizations often need stronger administrative systems, professional expertise, and organizational structures before they can successfully implement larger initiatives.
By supporting these improvements, the program aims to help foundations develop the capacity to manage resources responsibly and sustain their activities over time.
The Legacy to Future Funds program forms part of the Netherlands' response to its historical involvement in slavery and the ongoing consequences of that history in the Caribbean.
Previous funding rounds have provided opportunities for organizations throughout the Caribbean part of the Kingdom to seek support for organizational development and initiatives addressing the legacy of slavery.
Other categories within the program provide opportunities for larger projects focusing on historical awareness and the social consequences of slavery.
The application period for the upcoming Category 1 round will close on January 12, 2027.
Organizations interested in applying are encouraged to use Saturday's information session to familiarize themselves with the requirements before submitting their proposals.
The meeting offers an opportunity for Curaçao's nonprofit sector to gain a better understanding of the available financial assistance and how it can be used to strengthen organizations working within their communities.
