HRDC Warns Lack of Migration Policy Creates Confusion and Inequality

Local, | By Correspondent July 14, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – A lack of clear migration policy is contributing to confusion, unequal treatment and misunderstandings within Curaçao’s society, according to a report by Human Rights Defense Curaçao.

The study found that participants across different groups had limited knowledge of existing migration rules and often based their opinions on personal experiences rather than official information.

HRDC recommends that government develop a clear and consistent migration framework that is understandable for residents and migrants.

The organization argues that policy should not only focus on regulations but also on communication and transparency.

“Without clear information, space is created for misunderstandings and unequal perceptions,” the report states.
