WILLEMSTAD – The large-scale renovation and reconstruction of Curaçao’s historic City Hall courthouse is progressing, with the building expected to return to judicial use by early 2030.
According to the Joint Court of Justice Annual Report 2025, extensive preparatory work was carried out during the year, including drafting specifications, completing fire safety advisory processes and securing permits.
The heritage permit for renovation of the historic sections of the building was approved by the end of 2025.
The project also required discussions with Parliament about possible temporary relocation due to expected construction disturbances.
A dedicated project website has been launched to provide public updates on the renovation process.
By the end of 2025, the first phase of construction work had already been completed, including removal of outdated ceilings, carpeting, air conditioning systems and non-original architectural elements.
