Healthcare Reform Focuses on Prevention, Cost Control, and Digitalization

| By Correspondent February 20, 2026

WILLEMSTAD - Healthcare policy under the new governing program focuses on accessibility, sustainability, and cost control. The government plans to strengthen primary care, reduce waiting times, and improve financial management at the Curaçao Medical Center.

A shift from curative care toward prevention is a key objective, supported by programs addressing chronic diseases, healthier lifestyles, and local agriculture. Digitalization plays a central role, including the development of a national patient registry, data-driven healthcare management, and the use of artificial intelligence.

Environmental health is also addressed, with commitments to improve air, water, and waste management, alongside stronger enforcement and protection of biodiversity.
