WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Health, Environment and Nature, Tyron Boekhoudt, has continued his orientation visits within Curaçao’s healthcare sector with an introductory visit to Stichting Wit Gele Kruis (WGK), aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the essential care services the organization provides on the island.

The visit forms part of the minister’s broader effort to familiarize himself with key healthcare partners and assess how cooperation between the government and healthcare institutions can be strengthened.
During the visit, Boekhoudt received extensive information about the range of services offered by Wit Gele Kruis, including home care, specialized nursing care, patient transportation and support services for elderly residents and other vulnerable groups requiring medical assistance.
The minister also met with the management team to discuss the day-to-day operations of the organization, the challenges it currently faces and future opportunities to improve and expand services.
Wit Gele Kruis plays a significant role in Curaçao’s healthcare system, particularly in caring for elderly patients and people who require medical support outside of hospital settings. The organization’s home care services help reduce pressure on hospitals by allowing patients to receive treatment and support in their own homes.
The visit comes at a time when Curaçao’s healthcare sector continues to face increasing pressure from an aging population and rising healthcare costs, issues that have repeatedly been highlighted in recent financial and healthcare reports.
Boekhoudt said building stronger cooperation between healthcare institutions and the government remains an important priority, particularly as Curaçao works to improve accessibility, efficiency and quality within the healthcare system.
The minister’s orientation program is expected to continue in the coming weeks with visits to other healthcare organizations and institutions across the island as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Curaçao’s health sector and improve care delivery for residents.
