WILLEMSTAD – The gun amnesty campaign “Entregá bo arma i skapa un alma” has been extended by two weeks, authorities announced, giving residents additional time to surrender illegal firearms without facing prosecution.
The initiative, organized by the Curaçao Police Force and the Public Prosecution Service, allows individuals to hand in weapons anonymously and without legal consequences. Officials reported that several firearms have already been collected, but believe more people may still come forward.
During the extended period, firearms can be surrendered from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Public Prosecution Service. Authorities are urging participants to safely package weapons and include any ammunition when turning them in.
The campaign is aimed at reducing the number of illegal firearms on the island and improving public safety.
Officials continue to encourage residents to take advantage of the amnesty, emphasizing that removing weapons from circulation can help prevent violence and save lives.
