Local, | By Press release March 31, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Governor Lucille George-Wout has received a newly published book highlighting the legacy of renowned Curaçaoan writer Frank Martinus Arion during a visit by a local delegation.

The delegation, consisting of Lionel Janga and authors Trudi Martinus-Guda and Jeroen Heuvel, presented a copy of the book “Frank Martinus Arion Den Tres” during the meeting held on Thursday, March 26.

The publication, released by Fundashon Parke Nashonal, explores three central aspects of Arion’s influence: his thinking, his emotions, and his actions.

The first section focuses on his advocacy for recognition of the history of slavery. The second highlights his efforts to establish a Papiamentu-language school, which has now been in existence for 40 years. The third examines his contributions to Papiamentu poetry.

The book’s texts were written by Trudi Martinus-Guda, Arion’s widow, together with Jeroen Heuvel, while Lionel Janga served as editor.

With this publication, the authors aim to bring renewed attention to Arion’s multifaceted legacy and underscore his lasting impact on language, culture, and social development in Curaçao.
