WILLEMSTAD – Governor of Curaçao Mauritsz de Kort welcomed five former military servicemen to the Governor's Palace at Fort Amsterdam on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, for a reunion filled with memories of their years protecting the Governor and the historic government complex.
The visitors, Willem Nijhove, Edsel Rosa, Gilbert Martina, Franco Inees and Mobarc Davelaar, previously served with the Marine Patrols (Marine Patrouilles), commonly known as the Military Police.

Until 1988, these military personnel were responsible for providing security for the Governor and Fort Amsterdam, a responsibility now carried out by the Curaçao Police Force (KPC).
During the meeting, the former servicemen shared photographs and personal stories from their years of service. Governor De Kort accompanied them on a tour of the palace, where familiar surroundings brought back memories of their time on duty.
The five veterans also served in other capacities within the Dutch defense organization, contributing to the Kingdom of the Netherlands throughout their military careers.
The Governor's Office described the reunion as a meaningful gathering characterized by friendship, shared memories and appreciation for the veterans' years of dedication and service.
