WILLEMSTAD – Governor of Curaçao Mauritsz de Kort received the new President of the Joint Court of Justice, Sigmar Carmelia, for a formal introductory visit on Wednesday, August 19.

Carmelia was accompanied by Martin Luttge, Director of Operations, and Kyra de Koeyer, Board Secretary of the Joint Court of Justice.

During the meeting, the officials discussed several developments concerning the judiciary, including progress on the renovation of the historic Courthouse in Willemstad and the Court’s multi-year plan.

The Governor and the Court representatives also exchanged views on further developments within the judicial organization.

The Joint Court of Justice serves Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and the Caribbean Netherlands and plays a central role in the administration of justice throughout the Dutch Caribbean.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Court’s management presented Governor De Kort with a special gift: a print by Curaçaoan artist Fred Breebaart depicting the Sint Anna Bay.

The artwork was considered particularly fitting because the Governor’s Palace at Fort Amsterdam overlooks the bay.

The introductory meeting comes as Carmelia begins his tenure at the helm of one of the most important institutions within the judicial system of Curaçao and the wider Dutch Caribbean.
