WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has warned bus operators that public transportation fares have not been increased and that any driver charging passengers more than the legally established rate could face the loss of their operating permit.
Authorities emphasized that no authorization has been given for a fare increase, meaning official bus tariffs remain unchanged.
The warning comes amid reports that some passengers may have been charged higher fares than permitted. The government is now urging the public to report any violations directly.
Passengers who are asked to pay more than the official rate can file a complaint by calling 465-1477.
Officials also advised commuters that recording the transaction, if possible, could provide important evidence to support investigations into unauthorized overcharging.
The government stated that drivers found guilty of charging illegal fares risk having their bus permits revoked, signaling a stricter enforcement approach to protect passengers and ensure compliance within the public transport sector.
Authorities are encouraging the public to remain alert and report any irregularities as part of efforts to maintain fairness and transparency in Curaçao’s bus transportation system.
