WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Governance, Planning and Public Service Shalten Hato has confirmed that he has received requests from two public sector unions seeking a CG 1,000 bonus for civil servants.
According to the minister, the request was submitted by the Algemene Bond van Overheidspersoneel (ABVO) and separately by the STRAF union through its representative, Juan Lourens.
Minister Hato said the proposal will be placed on the agenda of the Council of Ministers meeting scheduled for July 22, 2026. During that meeting, he will discuss the unions' request with his fellow ministers to determine what action, if any, the government can take regarding the proposed bonus.
No decision has yet been made on the request. The Council of Ministers is expected to review the proposal and consider the government's options before any announcement is made.
The unions are seeking a one-time bonus of CG 1,000 for civil servants, although further details regarding the motivation for the request or the potential financial impact have not yet been released.
