Government Releases ANG 2.5 Million to FKP for Social Housing Maintenance

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has transferred 2.5 million guilders to Fundashon Kas Popular (FKP) to support maintenance work on social housing units, according to Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning Charles Cooper.

The minister announced the funding through social media, stating that the payment will allow FKP to continue carrying out maintenance on government-owned rental homes.

According to Cooper, the remaining funds earmarked for the housing foundation will be released once an agreement is reached between the government and FKP on financial arrangements, including matters related to rental income and other revenue streams.

The funding comes amid longstanding concerns over the condition of social housing properties across Curaçao. Residents have repeatedly reported issues including leaking roofs, delayed repairs, and other maintenance deficiencies.

FKP previously indicated that it lacked sufficient financial support from the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning to adequately maintain its housing stock. The newly released funds are expected to help address some of the backlog of repairs.

The announcement represents a significant step toward tackling maintenance issues that have affected social housing tenants for an extended period and could provide relief to residents waiting for repairs to their homes.
