Government Pushes Ahead with Koredo Expansion to Boost Tourism and Recreation

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao is moving forward with Phase II of the Koredo project in Zakitó, a development initiative aimed at strengthening the island’s recreational and tourism infrastructure.

The second phase follows the completion of initial works and is being carried out in partnership with the Curaçao Tourist Board. The project includes upgrades to the small beach at the entrance of Koredo, the construction of a new beach area near the former Sundance site, and the expansion of facilities designed to attract both locals and visitors.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, the initiative is intended to transform the area into a more appealing coastal destination, contributing to Curaçao’s broader tourism strategy and economic growth.

The Koredo project aligns with ongoing efforts to diversify the island’s tourism product, particularly by enhancing public spaces and beachfront access. With visitor numbers from North America and other markets continuing to grow, authorities see infrastructure development as key to maintaining competitiveness.

While the project promises economic benefits, including increased visitor spending and new opportunities for local businesses, its implementation is being closely watched by nearby communities.

The government has not yet provided detailed updates on the current pace of construction activities, but officials maintain that the project is part of a long-term vision to improve public amenities and strengthen the tourism sector.
