WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has agreed to establish regular coordination meetings among law enforcement agencies, government departments and agricultural organizations as part of a long-term strategy to combat livestock theft and animal abuse.
The decision was one of the key outcomes of a working meeting chaired by Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas on July 16, bringing together representatives from the Public Prosecution Service, the Curaçao Police Force (KPC), the Veterinary Service, the Ministries of Justice and GMN, and stakeholders from the agricultural sector.
According to the government, the participants reached several concrete agreements aimed at improving coordination between the institutions involved in addressing livestock-related crimes.
One of the main decisions was to hold periodic meetings to evaluate progress, strengthen cooperation and develop additional measures intended to produce sustainable long-term results.
The initiative follows an earlier meeting with agricultural cooperatives on July 8 and is part of what the government described as a structural collaboration process.
Officials said the strategy is designed to improve communication among agencies while enhancing prevention, enforcement and prosecution efforts to better protect Curaçao's agricultural sector from livestock theft and animal abuse.
