WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao is introducing special license plates for taxis and tour vehicles operating under temporary permits, in an effort to improve safety and transparency for visitors and the general public.
Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning Charles Cooper, together with the Transport Authority (UOVV), announced that the new plates will apply to all taxis and tour vehicles (TW) currently operating under temporary dispensation. The measure will take effect on May 1, 2026.
The new license plates feature a distinct and easily recognizable design, including an orange stripe and the letters “RC.” According to the ministry, the plates are intended to help tourists and residents quickly identify vehicles that are legally operating under the temporary system.
Authorities say the initiative will also strengthen oversight and enforcement within the transport sector, making it easier to monitor compliance.
Minister Cooper and UOVV expressed appreciation to operators in the sector, noting their role in providing safe, reliable, and transparent services to visitors on the island.
