Government Introduces Email System for License Plate Requests to Reduce Long Wait Times

Local, | By Correspondent April 14, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has introduced a new application procedure allowing motorists to request license plates by email, following ongoing complaints about long waiting times and overcrowding at distribution points.

The measure comes after residents reported waiting for hours to collect their license plates at the Gosieweg location, near the former Las Vegas supermarket. According to the Ministry of Finance Curaçao, demand led to significant congestion, particularly during morning and midday hours.

Under the new system, vehicle owners can submit their request via email by sending a copy of their inspection card, tax card, and contact details. Once the application has been processed, applicants will be notified when their license plate is ready for collection at the Tax Office on Regentesselaan.

Authorities say additional staff have also been deployed to help reduce waiting times and improve service flow. A daily cap on the number of license plates issued has been introduced as part of efforts to better manage demand.

The acting Receiver stated that the combined measures are aimed at improving efficiency and providing a more convenient experience for the public, while addressing the bottlenecks that have affected the system in recent weeks.
