WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is moving forward with a new coordinated approach to develop its maritime sector. Through the creation of the Programmatische Maritieme Tafel (PMT), the government and maritime stakeholders will work together on the future development of the Dok and Buskabaai areas.
The new platform was created to ensure that different projects and investments within the maritime sector are coordinated and contribute to a shared long-term vision. Participants include government representatives, public companies and private-sector organizations active in shipping, port operations and maritime services.
A major priority is the revitalization of Buskabaai. The planned work includes cleaning and dredging the bay and improving access for maritime traffic. The objective is to create a modern maritime area capable of supporting economic activity while also addressing environmental concerns.
The development of Buskabaai forms part of a broader ambition to position Curaçao as a regional maritime center. The island has a long history in ship repair and maritime services, and authorities believe modernization of existing infrastructure can help attract new international business.
The initiative is closely connected to the modernization of Curaçao’s maritime infrastructure. CDM Holding has been investing in the renewal of the shipyard, including infrastructure improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and attracting more repair activities from regional and international shipping companies.
The maritime sector has identified the Dok–Buskabaai area as a key location for future growth, combining ship repair, logistics, offshore support and industrial services.
Through the PMT, organizations such as CPA, CDM Holding, Buskabaai N.V., 2BAYS and CMAR will work together to overcome challenges and coordinate investments.
Government officials and maritime partners say the initiative represents a long-term investment in Curaçao’s economy, with the potential to generate new business opportunities, strengthen the island’s maritime position and create skilled employment for future generations.
