Government Approves Draft Legislation for Transfer of Centrale Hypotheekbank Shares

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent October 26, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has approved draft legislation concerning the transfer of shares in Centrale Hypotheekbank N.V., taking a formal step toward obtaining parliamentary authorization for the proposed transaction.

The Council of Ministers approved the contents of the draft national ordinance during its meeting on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Finance.

According to the government's official announcement, the draft ordinance will be forwarded through the Governor of Curaçao to Parliament for consideration.

The decision means that the proposed share transfer will now enter the legislative process, where members of Parliament will have the opportunity to examine the proposal before deciding whether to approve it.

The government's announcement did not disclose the identity of the proposed buyer or recipient of the shares, the number or percentage of shares involved, or the financial terms of the proposed transaction.

It also did not explain the reasons behind the intended transfer or indicate whether the transaction would affect the bank's existing operations.

These details are expected to be important considerations when the draft legislation is presented to Parliament.

The proposed transfer concerns Centrale Hypotheekbank N.V., a financial institution associated with mortgage financing.

Parliamentary consideration of the draft ordinance will provide an opportunity to examine the legal and financial implications of the proposed transfer and determine whether the necessary authorization should be granted.

The Council of Ministers' approval does not mean that the share transfer has already been completed. It represents approval of the draft legislation, which must still be submitted to Parliament for consideration.

No date has yet been announced for the parliamentary debate.
