Government Approves 29 Temporary Taxi Permits to Meet High Season Demand

WILLEMSTAD – The government has approved 29 temporary exemptions to allow additional taxis to operate during the high tourist season, aiming to meet the increased demand for transportation across the island.

The measure, introduced by the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP), is designed to ensure that sufficient legal taxi services are available during peak months, when visitor arrivals and local mobility needs typically rise.

According to the ministry, the temporary permits will expand the number of authorized taxis on the road and provide additional employment opportunities for drivers and assistant drivers in the coming months.

Officials emphasized that the exemptions are strictly temporary and do not grant permanent rights to a taxi license. The arrangement is described as a controlled measure intended to respond to seasonal demand without permanently altering the existing licensing framework.

The government also underscored that enforcement remains a priority. Authorities warned that any permit holder who fails to comply with established conditions risks having the temporary authorization revoked.

The initiative comes as Curaçao continues to experience strong tourism flows, placing added pressure on transportation services, particularly at the airport, hotel zones and major attractions.
