WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao's government is preparing another series of sports infrastructure projects following approximately XCG 35 million in renovations and improvements carried out at 28 locations during the past five years.
The Pisas III Cabinet announced that upcoming work will include maintenance of Curaçao's athletics track, improvements to volleyball courts and the installation of grass at Montab Ballpark.
The government also plans to unveil a new baseball field at Cirilo Chirino Ballpark in Tra'i Seru.
Additional projects are planned for the Jandoret Baseball Academy field and the football field in Tera Kòrá.
The new projects follow improvements to sports facilities in more than 15 neighborhoods. The government says its strategy is to make suitable facilities available within or close to communities so that children, young people, adults and sports organizations have greater opportunities to participate.
The 28 facilities renovated or improved over the past five years include the Mini Football Field in Montaña, Ernst Meyer Field in Brievengat, tennis courts in Mon Repos and Damacor, Mahuma Youth Center, CRKSV Jong Colombia in Boka Sami, Pinchingolo Field in Buena Vista, Vesta in Santa Maria and Brievengat Baseball Academy.
Work has also been carried out at the multifunctional sports hall in Barber, Cirilo Chirino Ballpark in Tra'i Seru, V.V. Willemstad in Saliña, Frank Curiel Ballpark in Santa Maria, fields in Heintje Kool and Koraal Specht, Montab Ballpark in Montaña Abou and Enith Brigitha swimming pool in Brievengat.
Other locations include the Amador Nita school gymnasium and field in Parera, Sabana Ballpark in Santa Rosa, Sam Bunting Ballpark in Brievengat, Soto Arena, Ergilio Hato Stadium, SUBT in Saliña, Van Engelen Ballpark in Suvek, Victory Boys in Santa Rosa and the St. Joris gymnasium.
The government says the approximately XCG 35 million invested over five years represents more than infrastructure spending. It views improved sports facilities as investments in public health, youth development, social cohesion and Curaçao's ability to develop future athletes.
The Pisas III Cabinet says renovations will continue as part of its objective to provide more neighborhoods with accessible and adequate facilities for physical activity and organized sports.
