Government Addresses Safety Risk at Marie Pampoen Beach Access Ramp

| By Correspondent March 17, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has taken action at Marie Pampoen Beach after a ramp designed for people with limited mobility became dangerously slippery due to algae buildup.

According to a government press release, the issue was flagged by the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), which alerted the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). Ministry personnel were subsequently deployed to clean the ramp and restore safe access.

Authorities indicated that the condition of the ramp posed a safety risk to users, particularly those relying on the facility for accessibility.

The government emphasized the importance of maintaining accessible public beaches and stated that efforts are ongoing to expand similar facilities at other locations across the island.

The intervention highlights the need for regular maintenance of accessibility infrastructure to ensure safe and inclusive use of public spaces.
