FFK President Gilbert Martina and Secretary General Jan Peter Dogge welcomed the appointment, stating that Gijsbertha brings the right combination of knowledge, skills, and mindset to fulfill the role. Both officials emphasized that selecting a candidate from the local football community with strong professional and strategic capabilities was a key priority.

Gijsbertha joins the federation with a diverse background that combines academic expertise, government experience, and deep involvement in football. He holds a Master of Science degree from TU Delft and has worked for the past 19 years as a senior policy advisor at the Ministry of Economic Development, where he gained extensive experience in international project management and financial programs.

Alongside his professional career, Gijsbertha has maintained strong ties to football in Curaçao. He progressed through all national youth teams, from the U-13 level to the senior national team, giving him a comprehensive understanding of player development within the island’s football structure.

His international credentials include successfully completing the FIFA Standard Course for Technical Directors. He is also certified as a Coach Educator by both CONCACAF and KNVB. In previous roles, he served as assistant to the national team coach during several World Cup qualification campaigns.

According to FFK, this combination of experience positions Gijsbertha to bridge the gap between international standards and local ambitions in football development.

Reacting to his appointment, Gijsbertha stated: “Football is a driving force in our community. With my experience in international organizations and large-scale government projects, combined with my role as a Coach Educator, we will build a bridge between local ambition and international standards. We are not just playing football—we are building an institution that all of Curaçao can be proud of.”
