Future of landspakket reforms under review as 2027 deadline approaches

Local, Economy, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent April 27, 2026

THE HAGUE – The future of Curaçao’s landspakket (economic) reforms will be reviewed as the current Kingdom cooperation arrangement approaches its 2027 deadline.

The Dutch government confirmed in its new policy letter that it will begin discussions with Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten on whether the reform package should end, continue or be adapted after 2027.

The reforms, introduced after the COVID-19 crisis as part of financial support agreements, have shaped major policy areas including public finances, governance, healthcare and economic reforms.

An independent evaluation will play a key role in determining the next steps.

For Curaçao, the future of these reforms remains politically sensitive. Supporters argue they are necessary for modernization and accountability, while critics view them as excessive Dutch interference in local autonomy.

The upcoming discussions are expected to become a major political topic in Curaçao over the next year.

The decision could shape the island’s governance and economic policies for years to come.
