WILLEMSTAD – The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Curaçao recently hosted the third edition of its Business Day, bringing together students and employers in an effort to strengthen ties between education and the local labor market.
A total of 18 local companies and organizations participated in the event, taking time to meet and engage with what organizers described as the engineers of the future. The initiative provided students with an opportunity to learn more about career paths, internship opportunities and employment prospects within Curaçao's technical and industrial sectors.

The day began with a series of short company presentations in the university auditorium, where participating businesses introduced their activities and highlighted the skills they seek in future employees. Following the presentations, students and company representatives gathered at a business fair, where networking opportunities allowed students to explore internships, graduation projects and potential job openings.
One of the highlights of the event was a presentation by second-year students enrolled in the university’s technical BEST program. The students attracted considerable attention by showcasing a project in which they successfully converted a conventional vehicle into an electric car.
In addition to the vehicle conversion, the students also designed and built a custom garage concept as part of the project, demonstrating both engineering and practical design skills. The initiative drew praise from visitors and participating companies, who viewed it as an example of the innovative capabilities being developed at the university.
Representatives from both the University of Curaçao and the participating business community described the event as a major success. They emphasized the importance of creating stronger connections between students and employers at a time when many sectors are seeking qualified technical professionals.
Organizers said the annual Business Day continues to play an important role in preparing students for the workforce while helping local companies identify future talent. By facilitating direct interaction between industry and education, the event aims to contribute to the development of a stronger and more sustainable labor market for Curaçao.
With growing demand for engineers, technicians and other specialized professionals, both the university and the business sector expressed hope that initiatives such as the Business Day will continue to inspire students and encourage them to pursue careers that contribute to the island’s economic development and technological advancement.
